Our Brief Story
Anjuman-I-Islam, Mumbai, was established in 1874 by a small yet devoted group of progressive Muslims headed by Justice Badruddin Tyabji, the third president of the Indian National Congress and the first acting Indian chief justice of the Bombay High Court. Tyabji sowed the seeds of the institution with a vision “to see the Muslim community advance in education and social standing.” Today, the institution has grown exponentially with an increase to ninety-seven affiliated institutions, including a school, a college of engineering, a polytechnic, a Unani medical college, a college of education, a college of commerce and economics, a law college, an institute of management studies, a college of hotel management and catering technology, a college of home science, a pharmacy school, and a school of architecture.
